SMCAS is governed by a Board of Directors elected by the general membership at each June general meeting or by the summer Star-B-Que if no June or July general meeting held. They are installed after the election closes for a 1-year term, serving to the following year’s election.
The Board of Directors governs SMCAS according to our By-Laws. The general roles of Board Members are listed below.
The Board of Directors normally meets monthly on the third Wednesday of each month, 7:30 to 9:30 pm, via Zoom, the date and time are subject to change. Members are eligible and encouraged to attend. Please contact any board member to confirm the meeting schedule if you plan to attend (see schedule below).

Board Member Roles
The general duties of the various Board positions:
President
- Chief executive officer, setting general direction, supervision and control of SMCAS.
- Preside at all general and Board of Director meetings
Vice President
- Perform duties to assist the President
- Fill in for the President when they are unavailable
Secretary
- Writes and files Board Meeting minutes
- Run annual nomination and election process for SMCAS Officers and Board Members
Treasurer
- Maintain the accounting books for SMCAS
- Handle receipts and payables
- Manage the SMCAS accounts at the Montara Credit Union
- Monitor the SMCAS Post Office Box on 21st Ave in San Mateo
- Maintain the membership list files
- File Federal and State tax and other forms required of non-profits.

- Be part of the Board decision making process by providing advice and voting.
