The annual StarBQue took place on July 18 at Crestview Park, San Carlos, continuing one of SMCAS’s favorite summer traditions as a relaxed, family-friendly evening for members to gather, share food, and enjoy time together under the sky.
Online voting for the 2026–27 officers and at-large directors closed during the StarBQue, and the new Board was installed for its one-year term. The Board will continue the Society’s work of bringing astronomy to the San Mateo County community.
This year’s Board remains largely the same, and we’re excited to welcome a new At-large Board member, Julian Salkin, who regularly attends our Star Parties.

After the picnic, many attendees stayed for the Star Party that followed, turning the evening into both a social gathering and an observing night. The telescopes drew a strong turnout after dinner, as members and guests took advantage of the clear evening to visit, compare views, and enjoy the night sky together.
